OPENER:
Have you been ashamed of something? Something you may have done, or something that has happened to you where you had no control of....
Where you felt so much shame and possibly guilt.

“ain’t that a shaaaaaaaaaaame”

Shame...........
SHAME:

1017 I. בּוֹשׁ (bôš): v.; ≡ Str 954; TWOT 222—LN 25.189–25.202 (qal) be ashamed, i.e., to have a painful feeling and emotional distress (sometimes to the point of despair), by having done something wrong, with an associative meaning of having the disapproval of those around them (Jdg 3:25; Jer 14:4), note: this wrong can refer to a social mistake, or a serious sin;

A painful feeling, of humiliation, or distress cause by consciousness of wrong, or foolish behavior.
Shame is a painful emotion-
responding to a sense of failure to attain some ideal state. Shame encompasses the entire self. The thought process in shame involves self-focused attention.

The physical expressions of shame include the blushing face, slumped with head down, eyes averted. It generates a wish to hide, to disappear or even to die.

Embarrassment has often been characterized as a mild form of shame.
Self-blame. Shame and guilt are emotions of self-blame. In the course of daily life, bad things inevitably happen. According to attribution theory, human beings are naturally drawn to search for causal explanations. Assessing the situation, we may blame others, poor weather, etc. But when we blame ourselves, we are most apt to feel shame and guilt.
Self-esteem. Self-esteem is defined as a subjective attitude towards oneself. When a person thinks poorly of himself, and when faces with negative events, he tend to blame his “bad self.” Moreover, frequent and repeated experiences of shame are apt to “chip away” at one’s general level of self-esteem.
We see in the story of Adam & Eve where God had given them everything, literally!
they had dominion, power, and kingships on earth. All the things that we strive for, concerning material things, rights,
The bible says that God would walk with them in the “cool of the day.
They were perfect! They lacked nothing

or being literally forced to fit a mold that society and even in the Church you feel like you have to fit.
Where you are always content, and basically PERFECT!!
Adam & Eve’s life was just that!
But like every MOVIE and book there is always a plot and disruption of some kind to end this “perfect life.”
We all know the story.............
The bible says before they were not ashamed that they were naked. Because they were without sin. There was no sin in them.
Because all they experienced was with God, when you connected to the source you are in the sense “sinless.” Because where there is sin, God does not dwell.
All they experienced was literally.............perfections.
There were “NOT ASHAMED” They looked at each other at saw no fault in one another. They were living the dream!!!
But if God wanted us to love him freely, he gave us a free will and the ability to chose to abide in him or to choose your own path.
But the human race “us” wants to decide what is good and evil, therefore we follow the voice of the Devil.
The moment they bit that Apple, they realized that they were naked and were ashamed and ran and hid, and covered themselves with Fig leaves.
What was “pleasant to the eye and desirable” Became their shame.
They knew before mentally but now by experience that they lost the God consciousness and gained self consciousness. They lost the power to do good and gained the power to do evil. Instead of becoming like God they became unlike him.
Adam lost that glorious sinlessness and innocence.
With their eyes, they saw “SHAME”
So much shame that they covered their shame
A. they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
B. Sewed -
stitch together pieces of material so as to make clothing.
aprons.
Jeremiah 17:14 The Message
God, pick up the pieces. Put me back together again. You are my praise!
We are broken people! Try to pick up the pieces of our lives.
C. and made themselves apron
1. Aprons - belted, i.e., pertaining to being girded around the waist
Ephesians 6:14 ESV
Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
ephes
belted, i.e., pertaining to being girded around the waist
The belt of Truth, cover your self with Truth!
John 14:6 KJV 1900
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Truth - Hiding nothing
They heard the voice of God ( the word (thy voice have i hid in my heart that i may not sin against thee)
the word (voice is God)
They hid and ran from God
But the bible says that GOD covered them with animal skins (explain)
Sometimes that is what we do, is we hide our shame
Bible says that they that they ran from the presence of God.
that they ran from the presence of God.
that they ran from the presence of God.
That paints a perfect picture of us, don’t you think?
The moment we sin and fail God or fail someone, we try to cover our shame.
The moment we sin and fail God or fail someone, some times we try to cover our shame.

SOMETIMES OUR SHAME LEADS TO DEATH (SPIRITUAL)

Judges 9:50–55 KJV 1900
Then went Abimelech to Thebez, and encamped against Thebez, and took it. But there was a strong tower within the city, and thither fled all the men and women, and all they of the city, and shut it to them, and gat them up to the top of the tower. And Abimelech came unto the tower, and fought against it, and went hard unto the door of the tower to burn it with fire. And a certain woman cast a piece of a millstone upon Abimelech’s head, and all to brake his skull. Then he called hastily unto the young man his armourbearer, and said unto him, Draw thy sword, and slay me, that men say not of me, A woman slew him. And his young man thrust him through, and he died. And when the men of Israel saw that Abimelech was dead, they departed every man unto his place.
Judges 9:50
1 Samuel 31:1–4 KJV 1900
Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa. And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul’s sons. And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers. Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.
1st samuel 31:
Judas hanged himself.
Sometimes people cannot bear the shame to the point where they want to takes their lives or leave the Church and God!

WE TRY TO COVER OUR SHAME

Many people cover there shame by going to a place where they need not to cover their shame.
Where they fit in and are shameless. There is that urge to feel guiltless and no one judging them. and that is to the

ABYSS OF THE WORD!

Bible said that they ran from God, many people now possibly do not run for God, but they run from the Church!
Why,
because people in the church are judging them, and looking down upon them Ready to cast stones at them!

Sometimes the Church is into shaming than covering!!

I dont want to remembered as a person who shamed someone, but i want to be known as the person who lifted
some one up!!

(ROLL WITH IT)

Story of Noah.......
Genesis 9:19–23 KJV 1900
These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread. And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.
Genesis 9:21–23 KJV 1900
And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.

Noah,
Noah,
had done so much in his time, He is part of the break men of faith in the book of Hebrews, etc.
but this time Noah did something very shameful.....
Genesis 9:19-
Noah got drunk with wine and Noah uncovered (shame) himself and his boys saw his shame and covered his “shame.”
They understood that is episode does not define their father!

We got to be in the covering business,

why not ??Jesus did!!!!

I do not want to hear how you shamed someone, but i want to hear how you covered them!
John 8:3–11 KJV 1900
And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
john 8:3-
“all you without sin cast the first stone"
we don’t say that but we say i do not have sin like his sin.
People were stoned because of their sin, “the wages of sin is death.”
Jesus covered her, he did not judge her or condemn her. but he came down to her level and covered her.

“WHERE CAN I GO IN MY SHAME?”

Tamar said,
2 Samuel 13:13 NKJV
And I, where could I take my shame? And as for you, you would be like one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you.”
2nd samuwl 13:
Before we brother forces himself upon her, she asks “WHERE CAN I GO IN MY SHAME?”
The bible says after her brother did what he did,
Tamar tore her garments and put ashes upon her head.
ASHES -
ashes, i.e., the carbon by-product of fire and burning material/OFFERING, with a strong associative meaning of mourning!
i.e., with a strong associative meaning of mourning

with the associative meaning of something dirty

Job 30:19 KJV 1900
He hath cast me into the mire, And I am become like dust and ashes.

But thank God that he takes our ashes ashes and turns it into something beautiful!

Ephesians 2:8–9 KJV 1900
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Isaiah 61:1 KJV 1900
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; Because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
Isaiah 61:3 KJV 1900
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, To give unto them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they might be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

WHERE CAN I GO IN MY SHAME?

Question:
Would you cover David after he commited adultery and kills her husband in war?
Would you cover Noah after he got drunk and was naked and shamed his family?
Would you cover Moses after he murdered a slave?
Would you cover the Apostle Paul after he has killed many Christians?

WE NEED TO GET IN THE COVERING BUSINESS!!!

Swanson, J. (1997). Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains : Hebrew (Old Testament) (electronic ed.). Oak Harbor: Logos Research Systems, Inc. David after he commited adultery and then kills hers husband?

You can give your shame to GOD!

2 Corinthians 5:21 KJV 1900
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Hebrews 12:2 KJV 1900
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

CLOSING:

Luke 15:18–20 KJV 1900
I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.
NOTICE,
HE DID NOT SAY “IF I GO TO MY FATHERS HOUSE” BECAUSE HE KNEW THAT HIS “FATHERS HOUSE”
THEY WOULD SHAME HIM!
BUT HE SAID,
“ IF I GO TO MY FATHER!”
HIS FATHER WOULD NOT JUDGE HIM OR SHAME HIM!
NOTICE THAT HIS FATHER RAN TOWARDS HIM, BECAUSE HE KNEW IF HE DIDNT GET THEY BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE WOULD SHAME HIM!
THE FATHER DID NOT CARE WHAT THEY THOUGH ABOUT WHAT THEY WOULD THINK ABOUT HIM

HE WAS GOING TO COVER HIS SON!
